We are GROWING!!

We are GROWING!!

We are expanding!  We are so excited, nervous, happy and overwhelmed and all the other emotions that go along with it.

Our new land has old pines, lots of underbrush and briers and will need a good bit of work to get it cleared and ready to plant, but it has not been farmed previously. We have "neutral" soil vs "depleted" soil. Both would take adding compost and amendments to get the biodiversity that we need, but the depleted soil would take a considerable amount more work. NRCS has great information on soil biodiversity. To read more  https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/nrcs142p2_050947.pdf

We are working on a permaculture-type design for the new farm. The best way we can describe permaculture is --

Whole systems thinking.

There are many definitions and philosophies of permaculture, but for us, it is basically observing our growing area and asking ourselves -- how can we design this space to be the most efficient? Give the highest nutrient-dense yield? How do we do use least amount of artificial chemicals? How can we enhance and regenerate the natural environment? And how do we do all of this and make a profit?
